Hello Noizefielderz, today we present you an interview with the awesome global player Tocadisco. Read about his opinion about EDM and much other interesting things.
Enjoy it!
Hi Roman, welcome to this interview. What was your intension to start an DJ-career?

Hello!!! The basic intention was that I wanted to live of music professionally but I could not find a band that wanted to go all the way. So, for producing and performing electronic music you just need one man. This was and is perfect for me.

Did you get bored from the sound of other DJs?

It depends. Music is about taste and mood etc. If you are in a mood for something deep and the DJ plays the hardest stuff you sure get bored. If you mean in general. Yes I think there could be much more creativity in DJ. But to become a DJ has never been easier than today. Thats why there are so many. You don’t even have to produce your own sound anymore. Just pay a ghost producer and he will copy the popular trends. Thats another reason why everything sounds the same….

You’re a DJ since 15 years and have played all around the world. Do you like it more to play in clubs or do you prefer playing on festivals?

I like both. At the moment I rather play at a small club than a festival, at least if its a commercial festival. There is nothing exciting about it anymore. Everybody plays the same, does the same, looks the same… Electronic music used to be for everybody including freaks and people that had a different view on life. Now it is a mainstream movement without anything special anymore. Its just a money machine. In small clubs its still about the music. Thats what I like.

What is the first step when you create a new song/track? Do you start with the drum-programming or with the harmonics first? How do you get the inspiration of your tracks?

Yes most of the time I start with the groove. But it can also be a bassline or a sample. Or even a track from another producer that has a great idea. And then you build on it. Inspiration can come from all sorts of things. Movies, Music, daily life, parties, conversations etc.

Which kind of equipment do you mainly use for your productions?

I produce on Apple computers with Logic. Only „in the box“. I have tons of plugins but I always go back to the Spectrasonics Trillian. It’s one of my favorites.

Which new remixes or tracks could the Tocadisco-fans expect next generally from you and is there a plan for a new release at Toca45 Recordings in the next future?

Since six month I’m building a new studio in Brazil. Thats why I couldn’t produce so much music but it’s almost ready and I cant wait to start again!

Do you want to expand your TOCACABANA- party concept also in further countries than just in Brazil, Germany and Belgium and will there be a big party when you reach the 50th TOCACABANA radio show?

Hahaha… The Tocacabana Radio show is now in its 4th year. I didn’t number the shows from the beginning. I just number it by year 23_2014, 25_2015 etc. I think it’s import to know that the sound was from a certain time. The party is already expanding. We are always trying to find new places to do the party… We already did one in Argentina.

You’re a big fan of Social Media. Have you ever thought about getting more interactive with your fans, with an own App in the future? Which projects could be expected next?

We actually have a to cabana app and also a tocadisco app. I m always trying to be accessible to my followers. If they have any question they can be sure I will contact them back and answer. At the moment I m working on some tutorial video for a site called „MacVideoPro“ I will explain my production process and how I did ysome of my most famous tracks and remixes.

EDM doesn’t seem to be your favourite style. Is it just because of the hype or don’t you like the music? Which kind of style do you think will be the next big shot?

You are right I m not a big fan of EDM as a musical style. In the beginning I thought it was funny because I felt it was the next step up from electro house. But then it became cheesier and cheesier. And the tracks lack creativity. I always loved underground music more than mainstream music. Although many of my remixes and tracks had commercial success they always started out as an underground club track. At the moment there are more different styles of house than ever before. It’s so much music out there its crazy. Hard to say if there is going to be a next big thing.

My 5 alltime-classics are:

1.Codec & Flexor – Time has changed
2.Jeff Mills – The bells
3.Der Dritte Raum – Hale Bop
4.Audion – Mouth to Mouth
5.The Prodigy – Breath

Now let’s tell our Noizefield readers something that you always wanted to tell them.

I think its the most difficult time to become a professional musician/DJ. I hope it will change soon and the people that are just in it for the money disappear. More creativity in music and more brave artist please!
